The Indigenous Ministry Day has been running for quite a while now and is a key event in the Diocesan Calendar. This year the topic was ‘raising up leaders’. Michael Duckett and Jum Naden talked about the need for different learning pathways and relational strategies. They’re very excited about The Well training programme. This is an apprenticeship-style course based on the Moore College Diploma of Biblical Theology, but taught in ways that are culturally appropriate, contextual, and relational with a focus on competency development. There will be specialised units covering topics like the relationship between Christianity and culture, and the practicalities of doing ministries in marginalised areas.

We also heard from Matt, an Indigenous student in his first year at Moore College and the importance of spiritual mentors and leaders in him putting up his hand to be trained.

A highlight every year is the ‘ministry moments’ where people share about ministries happening around the Diocese. We heard from George Ferguson at Walgett, Kurt Langmead at Lightning Ridge, and Dixie Skuthorpe at Uralla, about all that God is doing among Aboriginal communities in those areas and how we can pray for these ministries.
